Sony CEO signals summer of tablets

Tony Smith writes that Sony will enter the Android tablet market this year.
“Sony will enter the Android tablet arena before the summer is out, the Japanese giant’s CEO, Howard Stringer, has revealed. It will run Android 3.0 Honeycomb, he said, and ship in the US first, according to a Nikkei report mentioned by Bloomberg but not linked to.”
AMD says Llano processor is now shipping

John Morris shares details about AMD’s new Llano 32nm accelerated processing units (APUs).
“AMD is now shipping its Llano 32nm APUs to customers, suggesting desktops and laptops using the new chip will be available in mid-2011 as promised. The company’s interim CEO, Thomas Seifert, made the announcement during a conference call this morning to discuss a change in AMD’s supply agreement with its manufacturing partner, GlobalFoundries. Llano, which consists of a dual- or quad-core CPU combined with a DirectX 11 graphics processor, won’t be AMD’s first APU. It is already shipping C-Series (code-named Ontario) and E-Series (code-named Zacate) APUs, manufactured by a different foundry, TSMC, on a 40nm technology. But these low-power APUs are designed for smaller netbooks and ultra-thin laptops, as well as budget notebooks.”

“Allison Johnson, who has served as Apple’s vice president of worldwide marketing communications since 2005, is leaving the company, according to several sources. The reason? To co-found a new marketing and communications firm with another Silicon Valley communications luminary, Former Facebook PR exec Brandee Barker. Sources said Johnson will begin work at the venture after negotiating her departure from Apple, which is likely to come sometime before the summer.”
