SPOT Satellite Messenger now at a London Drugs store near you

Mississauga, Ont.-based Globalstar Canada Satellite Co., a satellite voice and data services vendor, has announced London Drugs, as the first retailer to carry its SPOT product in Canada.

Wynne Powell, president of London Drugs, a pharmacy and consumer electronics retail chain in Western Canada, said Globalstar’s SPOT Satellite Messenger is an important addition to its existing offerings of consumer electronics products.

“SPOT Satellite Messenger is a compelling and affordable personal safety device that we are pleased to be able to offer,” Powell said.

SPOT is a personal safety device aimed at the consumer market which enables its users to have a line of communication, that’s separate from a cell phone in the event of an emergency.

Globalstar says the little more than seven-ounce device is optimal for remote worker and outdoor enthusiast use. Some features of the product include, the ability to send and save your location to let others track where you are by using Google Maps, it can send a help request to friends and family members, and it can also notify emergency call center locations of your GPS location coordinates.

Jim Mandala, senior director of sales and marketing at Globalstar Canada, said the company’s partnership with London Drugs is strategic.

“Our partnership with (them) is a significant first step in our strategy to make SPOT accessible to Canadian consumers at both an affordable price and at outlets nationally through the retail channel,” he said.

SPOT Satellite Messenger sells for $169.99 and its one-year service subscription rate begins at $99.99.
