“Major Yahoo investors want Microsoft to buy a third of Yahoo at $30 to $32 a share and force Yahoo out of its Google search advertising deal. These shareholders say their pressure has Yahoo Roy Bostock believing he has to do a deal with Microsoft. These shareholders say Microsoft should pay Yahoo $1 billion to seal the deal.”

Layer 8 writes of a new tutoring technology that could be dependent on facial expressions.
“By using a combination of facial expression recognition software and automated tutoring technology Jacob Whitehill, a computer science Ph.D. student from UC San Diego’s Jacobs School of Engineering, is leading the project that ultimately is part of a larger venture to use automated facial expression recognition to make robots more effective teachers. The researchers recently conducted a pilot test…that demonstrated information within the facial expressions people make while watching recorded video lectures can be used to predict a person’s preferred viewing speed of the video and how difficult a person perceives the lecture at each moment in time.”
Intel says ‘no’ to Windows Vista

Tony Smith gives the lowdown on Windows Vista and its lacking of Intel installation support.
“Windows Vista is not for Intel, it has been claimed. The chip giant will not be installing the new operating systems on its many thousands of desktop PCs. It has ‘no compelling case’ to do so. So claims an insider cited by the New York Times yesterday. A company spokesman admitted the OS was not being rolled out across the corporation, but said Vista will be brought to some departments.”
