Trends—IT workers pound the pavement

Chicago – Sixty per cent of IT professionals are currently looking for new jobs, according to the results of a new survey by the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA).

More than 80 per cent of those job seekers described their search as active.

Neill Hopkins, vice-president of Skills Development at CompTIA says the reason that so many tech employees may want to change jobs is because employers are not taking a more aggressive role in setting priorities when it comes to continuing education and re-training of their IT workers.

Of the 462 IT professionals participating in the survey, 85 per cent said they decide what IT training and education they need, based on their own career plans, and only eight per cent of these respondents said they make their choices based on their employer’s requirements and recommendations.

Meanwhile, only 20.5 per cent of respondents said that their employer provides paid time away from work for training and education.

Large-size panel shipments
San Jose, Calif. – According to research firm DisplayBank, LG Electronics narrowly beat Samsung Electronics for the most large-size TFT LCD panels shipped last year.

Only half a percentage point separated the two South Korean powerhouses. LG had a 21.5 per cent share of the market, while Samsung came in at 21 per cent.

Taiwan manufacturer AU Optronics came in third with 14.3 per cent of shipments worldwide.

LG shipped more than 24 million monitor panels and 6.1 million LCD TV panels.

Samsung had the largest share for notebook computer panels, with 15.4 million units. What was stunning about the new figures is that all the other panel manufacturers make up 25.6 per cent of the market.
