ValuePoint shipping low-cost outdoor mesh router

SAN FRANCISCO — ValuePoint Networks, Inc. has begun shipping the SuperMesh 8000, a high-powered 600mWatt outdoor mesh router priced at under US$800.

Until now, the high cost of mesh systems often needed to be subsidized, the company said. But it claimed early SuperMesh 8000 customers are achieving a rapid return on investment.

“We are working with a sizable part of the market that needs mesh, but cannot justify the high cost of other vendors’ products,” said David Grissom, VP Business Development of ValuePoint Networks. “Many WISPs and solution providers need something that brings them a rapid return on investment. The SuperMesh 8000 series does this.”

The SuperMesh 8000 is based on IETF industry standard meshing protocols. It is self configuring and self healing, with best path capability, supporting multiple WAN connections. It has a tunable 600 mWatt 802.11a, 802.11b/g, or 900MHz output, with high receiver sensitivity, for very long distances. 802.11b/g access is available with 300mWatt, 500mWatt, MultiSSID, and Dual Radio output.

The SuperMesh 8000 is priced starting at US$799 to solution providers, with further discounts based on volumes.
