Video: Ontario’s e-waste recycling fees and the channel

Since word of the Ontario government’s electronic waste recycling program began to filter through the channel over the past month, many in the Ontario IT channel community have been scrambling for more information about the program, and what it will mean for their business.

Ready or not, Ontario Electronic Stewardship (OES) launched the program April 1st, and fees ranging from 32 cents for peripherals to over $13 for a desktop computer now apply to most IT sales in the province. Fees partners will need to either absorb or pass on to their clients, and fees partners may even have to collect and remit to the OES themselves.

To learn more about the program and what it means for the channel, CDN spoke to OES executive director Carol Hochu, and analysts Paul Edwards from IDC Canada and Aaron Hay from Info-Tech Research Group, for this video report.
