Nokia sues Apple over iPhone

Kelly Fiveash writes why Nokia is suing Apple.
“Nokia is suing Apple for allegedly infringing 10 of the company’s patents in its iPhone device. The world’s number one mobile phone vendor filed its lawsuit in Delaware’s federal district court (yesterday). Nokia detailed 10 patents in the case that relate to technologies ‘fundamental to making devices which are compatible with one or more of the GSM, UMTS and wireless LAN standards,’ it said in a statement.”
VMware profits drop by half

Chris Mellor shares VMware’s third quarter 2009 financial results.
“VMware made 54 per cent less profit in its third 2009 fiscal quarter than a year ago. Revenues were $490 million, up slightly at four per cent compared to a year ago, but net income fell by more than half, being $38 million compared to $83 million in 2008’s third quarter.”
EMC revenues steady but profits down

Chris Mellor also recap’s EMC’s third quarter revenue earnings for this year.
“EMC reported steady third quarter 2009 revenues of $3.52 billion but profits fell 24 per cent compared to a year ago. The 2008 third quarter revenue number was five per cent down on 2008’s third quarter but eight per cent up on the second 2009 quarter. Net income was $298.2 million, an impressive 45 per cent higher than the second quarter but almost 25 per cent less than the year-ago quarter’s $393.4 million, though still beating Wall Street estimates.”
