Businesses desperately seek Web 2.0 understanding

At a recent Computerworld Live Tour event held in Toronto, Dan McLean recounts Aaron Kim, Web Evangelist at IBM Canada’s explanation behind the success of Web 2.0 and social networking.

“‘By 2010, 40 per cent of the workforce will be [from a current age group that is 30-years-old and under],’ Kim said. They grew up with computers and the Internet. That’s reason enough for businesses to quickly embrace Web 2.0 and social networking, and figure these things out fast.”

“The principle behind GigPark — which also has a Facebook application — is a simple one. You can post recommendations on the site, if you have a masseuse or a real-estate agent or a mechanic that you think your friends might be interested in using, and you can also ask your friends and the other people in your network to recommend someone for a particular job.”
