Acer’s new Chromebook features a touchscreen

Acer America has launched its first touchscreen Chromebook, the Acer C720P. The new model runs Google’s Chrome OS in a laptop with an 11.6″ HD LED back-lit display, and is priced starting at US$299. Acer claims the Chromebook will offer up to 7.5 hours of battery life.


More intuitive interaction

“Our new touchscreen C720P gives customers an intuitive way to browse sites online, enjoy apps, and do more with the Chromebook,” said Arif Maskatia, CTO for Acer, in a statement. “The Acer C720 Chromebook line has been praised for its performance and battery life, and this new touchscreen model allows us to address the needs of an even wider range of customers with exciting new capabilities.”


Interacting with gestures

The Acer C720P features an 11.6″ ComfyView HD display with 1366×768 resolution for the crisp display of images and videos, and the multi-touch display allows for gestures such as swipe, tap and pinch to zoom. The C720P is powered by an Intel Celeron 2955U Haswell processor.


Speedy boots to productivity

With a 32GB SSD, Acer says the C720P boots up and gets users to productivity in about seven seconds, It features 2GB of DDR3 memory, and for wireless connectivity is compatible with 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi. It measures .78″ thin and weighs in at 2.98lbs, making it easier to lug around for mobile workers.


Plenty of ports

Other features include an integrated HD web cam, a dual speaker design for stereo audio, USB 3.0 and 2.0 ports, and automatic OS updates. The C720P also features data security features such as data encryption and verified boot. It comes with 100GB of free cloud storage for two years.
