Networking giant Cisco announced Monday the appointment of Chuck Robbins as the company’s next CEO, replacing John Chambers.

On Twitter, Robbins said that he was “Humbled and honored,” to be appointed.  He will be stepping into a position July 26 this year.

Earlier this month, Robbins was elected to Cisco’s board of directors.  Chambers, meanwhile, will become the executive chairman upon leaving the CEO role, and will continue to serve as chairman in the meantime.

“We’ve selected a very strong leader at a time when Cisco is in a very strong position,” said Chambers in an official statement. “This is the perfect time for Chuck Robbins to become Cisco’s next Chief Executive Officer. Chuck knows every Cisco segment, technology area, and geography, and will move the company forward with the speed required to capitalize on the opportunities in front of us.”

According to the company, Robbins joined Cisco in 1997 and held the role of senior vice president of worldwide operations, working with the sales and partner teams.

Meanwhile, Chambers served as Cisco’s CEO for two decades, after joining as the head of sales in 1991.  During that time, the company grew from $1.2 billion in annual revenue to $48 billion currently.
