While Dell is busy expanding into the cloud, services, infrastructure and networking, it’s not forgetting its core PC business, and this week it announced a major refresh of its consumer and commercial PC business, with new models across its lines of Latitude, OptiPlex and XPS laptops and desktops.
“We have taken outstanding products and made them even better with improved performance, sleek design and state-of-the-art security and management capabilities,” said Kirk Schell, vice-president of the PC product group at Dell, in a statement. “We’re constantly listening to customers and improving our leading edge products based upon their input. Through enhanced components and engineering, we’re providing customers with a great computing experience and helping them realize the efficiency and productivity benefits provided through improved performance.”
On the XPs front, Dell is promising enhancements in both performance and expandability over the previous generation. New models include the XPS 27 All-in-One PC, with a touchscreen AIO interface and Adobe RGB Quad HD display, giving multimedia users brighter, truer colours. The XPS 8700 desktop offers improved speed, expandability and storage, and the XPS 12 convertible laptop is is 1.6 times faster than the previous model and has two more hours of battery life bringing the total to over eight hours.
On the commercial side, the Latitude E6540 is the latest edition to Dell’s secure and manageable commercial laptop portfolio, with a FIPS 140-2 certified TPM and Dell Data Protection that includes file-level encryption, advanced authentication and malware protection.
Also new is the OptiPlex 9020 desktop with Intel vPro. The vendor claims it’s their most powerful commercial desktop to date, and it will come in four form factors, including a compact AIO model. It can be cloud enabled with the Dell Cloud Desktop feature, a new desktop and application virtualization technology powered by Dell Wyse WSM. The capabilities of the OptiPlex 9020 can be shared to a number of virtual users in a secure environment with centralized management and storage.
All of the new PCs are based on 4th generation Intel Core processors. The XPS 27 AIO and XPS 8700 are available today in Canada. The Latitude E6540 laptop and OptiPlex will be available in the coming weeks, and the XPS 12 convertible laptop will become available in July.
