Avaya Inc. is going virtual. The networking vendor has launched version 6.2 of Aura, its unified communications suite, renamed Aura Virtualized Environment, with six applications certified to run under VMware and more to come.
The update is now available as a free download under organization’s user licenses for those who want to run in on their own servers, as a turnkey server with software or as part of a Collaboration Pod, which includes virtualized storage and networking, according to a report in IT World Canada:
“We look at this as a big step forward,” said Tac Berry, an Avaya product manager. “We see this as a great opportunity for our existing customers to migrate to the latest Avaya Aura. But it’s also an opportunity for new customers who have VMware today but who haven’t made the decision to go to a full UC-capable solution. This allows them to do it without having to buy more hardware.”
