AUSTIN — Dell Technologies is doubling down on the pay-per-use pricing model, and on Tuesday, announced that its as-a-service offerings have been extended to its Dell EMC PowerEdge servers and the new Dell EMC PowerOne autonomous infrastructure system.
Dell announced the launch of Dell Technologies On Demand, which brings together its various consumption models under one umbrella, offering payment options for a range of technologies including compute, storage, networking and virtualization, at the Dell Technologies Summit this week.
“The multi-cloud world is here and will only grow, which means customers need on-demand and consistent infrastructure that yield predictable outcomes across all of their clouds, data centers and edge locations,” said Jeff Clarke, vice chairman at Dell, in a press release.
Dell says more than 2,000 channel partners currently use payment solutions from Dell Financial Services, the company’s line of credit program.
Scalar, a CDW Company, was an early adopter of the Dell Technologies Isilon Flex on Demand solution for its StudioCloud offering.
Kris Kostiuk, global director of business development and media and entertainment (M&E), told Channel Daily News that the company is looking forward to bundling Isilon and Dell PowerEdge compute, in addition to Dell Precision workstations for a bundled “Studio-as-a-Service”.
One of Scalar’s biggest clients in the M&E space, Cinesite, was also an early adopter of Isilon Flex on Demand from Scalar at both their Image Engine VFX studios in Vancouver and Cinesite Animation Studios HQ in Montreal.
“In both cases, Scalar bundled Isilon and its consumption based capacity solution with StudioCloud co-location so they could conduct a complete refresh of their storage,” Kostiuk wrote in an email. “For Cinesite, this deployment provided the opportunity to commission their mission critical production storage infrastructure off-site to free up space and power for on-premises Dell Precision workstations.
“Clients experience access to elastic capacity on demand and obtain access to all the performance 100 per cent of the time with the 30 per cent over provision of Isilon nodes that represent that burst capacity even though they only commit to the 70 per cent base capacity. In fact, we have further leveraged the Dell Technologies Isilon Flex on Demand program and bundled it together with StudioCloud co-location and managed services to create a turnkey solution with a single price/GiB/month line item for our clients to consume production Isilon storage.”
Alongside the addition of servers and PowerOne to Dell’s as-a-service offerings, Akanksha Mehrotra, vice-president of strategy, planning and operations at Dell Technologies, said that the company’s PC-as-a-Service offering has expanded to accommodate small businesses and even startups.
“It’s been brought down for a single customer,” she said.
