Break out the champagne and cut the birthday cake – Dell is celebrating 25 years in Canada this week.
The vendor first set up shop in Canada on May 26, 1988 as PCs Limited with an Office in Richmond Hill, Ont. When the company went public one year later, the name was changed to Dell Computer Corp. It’s first Canadian order was for a 20MHz 386 system worth about $10,000 – thankfully prices have since come down.
A major milestone for Dell came in 2008 when it introduced its channel partner program, ending its fervent commitment to a direct-only model by embracing an indirect model that has allowed it to greatly expand its reach in the market.
And Dell has a new leader to help it celebrate its 25th anniversary. Kevin Peesker recently returned to Dell Canada as its new president, effective February 4. Before moving to Europe to lead several Dell business units, he’d served as Dell Canada’s vice-president and general manager, SMB, which included responsibility for the channel program.
