Dropbox and Microsoft announce partnership, app integration

In a surprise announcement today, Dropbox and Microsoft have revealed a partnership to bring the cloud storage service to Office on phones, tablets and web platforms.

The deal will allow Microsoft Office users to access Dropbox files and folders from Office applications while Dropbox users will be able to open files to edit using Office programs. Lastly, Office users will also find Dropbox’ sharing functionality directly integrated into the programs.

Dropbox stated on their blog that customers with Office 365 licenses will see updates within the next few weeks to Office apps for phones and tablets. Meanwhile, Web integration between the Dropbox Web site and Office Online is slated for the first half of 2015.
