Rob Lloyd named as CEO of Elon Musk’s Hyperloop startup

Cisco President Rob Lloyd

There’s a chance that by now you’ve heard of but have no immediate connection to Hyperloop Technologies, Elon Musk’s startup that aims to make trains that travel at over 1100 km/h, capable of crossing the continent in hours.

That company now has gained someone very familiar to the channel at its helm, namely Cisco’s Rob Lloyd, who has been named as the company’s new CEO.

Lloyd was reportedly a favourite to replace John Chambers, who retired in May.  He was, in the end, replaced by Chuck Robbins. Lloyd resigned in June.

Forbes reports that Hyperloop cofounder Shervin Pishevar, an acquaintance of Lloyd, introduced him to the company, of which the former Cisco executive knew little about.

Lloyd will go from heading the networking giant as president to a company of 50 staff. His other experience at the company includes overseeing worldwide operations, Canada and Japan operations, as well as Europe, Middle East and Africa.
