More than 40 TechSelect members and 20 vendor partners joined Tech Data Canada at its annual Spring TechSelect Partner Conference in Winnipeg this week.
The conference, now a staple of the channel calendar, had vendor workshops and plenty of networking sessions highlighted by a tour of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights in the Forks section of the city.
Solution providers and vendor executives were treat to a special tour of the museum, which starts at the Great Hall and turns into a series of ramps that culminates at the Tower of Hope. In this section museum visitors see illuminated ramps made of alabaster tiles.
New to this year’s conference is Dell Canada, while Winnipeg-based solution providers Oxygen Technical Services and Broadview Networks enjoyed playing hosts to the group.
“The Canadian Museum for Human Rights was a conference highlight for me,” said Irene Buchan, the director of marketing for Tech Data Canada. “The structure itself was quite impressive and that’s an understatement. The TechSelect members and the vendor partners got a chance to see amazing exhibits on Nelson Mandala, Jesus Christ, Gloria Steinem, Martin Luther King and others,” she said.
Beyond the tour the partners all got down to work during the three-day event that includes a special session on Cisco Canada’s Connected North initiative.
The Toronto-based networking and collaboration vendor developed an initiative focused on delivering immersive and interactive education along with healthcare services to communities in the Nunavut territory. The program incorporates high-definition two-way video and collaboration technologies from Cisco and other third partner providers.
Connected North is now operating in 10 communities in Nunavut thanks in large part to the charitable contributions of the channel community and TechSelect.
Buchan told CDN that this group raised another $15,000 for Connected North at the Winnipeg conference.
The money was raised at the annual charity games night where all TechSelect members and vendor partners participated.
“It feels good to see everybody, as a community, be so supportive to this initiative, while having fun playing all these games. TechSelect (which is now up to 65 members across Canada) is from Victoria to St. John’s and all of us feel this kinship with this community and this will help to benefit Connected North,” Buchan said.
