Cisco’s John Chambers on video walls

San Jose, Calif. – The concept is quite simple: a video screen as wallpaper.

That’s what Cisco showed off to reporters at its Global Editor’s Day. In this video Cisco Executive Chairman John Chambers is interviewed by CDN on this new video wall strategy called IX5000 Immersive Room.

Also in the video is a demo by Rowan Trollope, Senior Vice President & General Manager of the Cisco’s Collaboration Technology Group.

The Canadian-born Trollope said this new video conference technology should not be restricted to just the boardroom. Instead Cisco wants to have this technology in every office room possible.

“This brings data and people together and it’s just like William Gibson said: ‘the future is here. It’s just not evenly distributed.’” (William Gibson is an American-born novelist who lives in Vancouver, B.C. that also coined the term “Cyberspace.”)

The new TelePresence room at Cisco headquarters can move, expand, and rotate specifically for the active speaker or presenter in the room. That person can also instantly open up a white board if needed.

There are two 4K cameras and this system no longer needs the blinds to be closed for better viewing. Its run by an app called Proximity that controls the content or PowerPoint presentations. Proximity can also get access to people via their mobile phones.
