RIM’s PlayBook to run Android apps

“(Last) Thursday, RIM said it plans to deliver what it called an ‘app player’ for its PlayBook tablet that will provide an environment capable of running Android 2.3 applications. An app player is also planned for running BlackBerry Java apps. The environments will mean PlayBook users can download Android and BlackBerry Java apps from BlackBerry App World to run on the PlayBook, scheduled for release on April 19. Contacted by The Reg, RIM did not explain how the environments are built or will operate. Unveiling the PlayBook last fall, RIM said it was working on a ‘next generation’ Java virtual machine.”
MSI start shipping AMD-based laptop, Wind Top All-in-One PC

Rachel King writes about MSI’s new computers that are powered by AMD’s CPUs and GPUs.
“The (MSI) CR650, a ‘media notebook’ that is powered by a dual-core AMD E-350 processor with AMD Radeon HD 6310 Discrete-Class graphics. These specs compliment the Microsoft DirectX 11 as well as Cinema Pro technology for enhanced video playback on the 15.6-inch display. Along with an HDMI output slot to transfer videos to the nearest HDTV, users can also take advantage of the 720p HD integrated webcam. Then we have the Wind Top AE2050, with the exact same processing power and graphics card. However, there are some extra perks, such as the 20-inch touch screen (16:9 aspect ratio; 1,600 x 900 resolution), a 500GB hard drive and two USB 3.0 ports. Otherwise, the specs are run-of-the-mill, but at least budget-friendly.”
LG has the devices to join the Android inner circle in 2011

Jason Hiner writes about LG’s high-end Android devices which are set to come out this year.
“In 2011, LG is moving upstream, going beyond its feature phone roots, and planning a flurry of high-end Android devices. After everything I saw and tried out at CTIA Wireless 2011, I now consider three LG products among the most anticipated mobile devices coming in 2011: 1) LG Revolution, a Verizon 4G LTE smartphone, 2) T-Mobile G-Slate, a 10-inch tablet running stock Honeycomb, 3) T-Mobile G2x, an HSPA+ smartphone running stock Android. None of these three devices have an official launch date, but are scheduled to be released this summer.”
