Next Gen iPhone Rumours keep rolling in

Yoni Heisler writes about the latest rumours to come from AppleInsider about Apple’s new iPhone OS 3.0.

“AppleInsider reported that a solid and reliable source had told them that the next iteration of the iPhone will support video recording. A video enabled iPhone, of course, raises a number of interesting possibilities, such as video-chat capabilities.”

VMware VMs cost how much?
The Register
Chris Mellor writes that according to VMware, its virtual machines cost less than those of competitors because you can “stuff” more of them in a physical server.

“Jeff Boles, a Tanaja analyst, says: ‘We’ve validated in a number of tests that VMware virtualized servers can run twice as many applications than other hypervisors at equal or even greater performance levels.’ Although VMware might cost more on its own than virtualization products such as Microsoft’s Hyper-V, you save money because you can consolidate applications onto a smaller number of physical servers.”

WSJ: More IBM layoffs in U.S.; jobs shifting to India

Sam Diaz offers more info on the IBM layoffs, as reported by The Wall Street Journal.

“The number of jobs affected is unknown and IBM didn’t comment on the workforce reduction. But the WSJ points out that the group is the company’s largest in both revenue and employment, with 180,000 employees worldwide. The company made a round of job cuts back in January. The WSJ said about 4,600 employees in its software, sales, semiconductor and finance groups received notices during that round.”
