Brother offers two new laser all-in-ones

Brother International on Tuesday introduced its new MFC-7000 Multi-function Center series printers. The new line includes the wireless MFC-7840W for US$299 and the Ethernet-based MFC-7440N for $249. Both models are coming in April and work with Macs and PCs.

Both printers share a common design and feature similar performance and capabilities — up to 23 pages per minute print and copy speeds, up to 2400 x 600 dot per inch (DPI) printing, color flatbed scanning, 35-sheet Auto Document Feeder (ADF) capacity, 250-sheet paper input capacity with single-sheet bypass slot, 14.4 Kbps fax modem and 10/100-baseTX Ethernet and USB 2.0 interfaces.

The MFC-7840W also adds a wireless 802.11b/g-compatible interface, PC6 and BR-Script3 (PostScript 3-compatible) emulation, 33.6 Kbps “Super G3” fax modem, backlit LCD display and four-day memory backup.

Both printers can use either standard or hi-yield toner carts; the standard cartridge costs $49.99 and lasts for approximately 1,500 pages. The hi-yield model costs $64.99 and outputs approximately 2,600 pages. The replaceable drum unit works for about 12,000 pages.

Both printers are compatible with Mac OS X v10.2.4 or later.

Brother’s Web site had not been updated with information about the new printers as Macworld posted this article.
