Canada and Israel to begin negotiations on a Mutual Recognition Agreement

Canada and Israel are to start negotiations on a Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) which would involve the importing and exporting of telecommunications equipment.

Tony Clement, Minister of Industry for Canada, said the agreement would open up trade opportunities for Canada.

“An MRA will broaden trade opportunities for Canada’s telecommunications industry and provide access to Israel’s latest communications technology for Canadian industry and consumers,” Clement said.

The MRA would help streamline the assessment procedures for telecommunications equipment and would help when issuing out certificates for compliance.

Industry Canada officials will travel to Israel in early 2010 to begin negotiating the MRA.
