As we all already know, SATA is the serial desktop technology currently replacing parallel ATA.It enables faster throughput, improved scalability, and compact cabling. Low cost and large capacity are the attributes of an attractive disk solution for the majority of mainstream customers. The ever-demanding higher capacity for today’s world helps us to market systems with large capacity drives. Large capacity drives are improving system builders’ profitability and competitive edge.
SAS will be another technology for the system builder community that will improve profitability for similar reasons.
Nowadays, hard drives have moved from being just a 3.5” device to one with various sizes and technologies. All these new innovations give us an opportunity to offer a wide variety of storage solution to our customers. For example, miniature hard drives are becoming the must-have accessory for today’s portable electronic devices. In the world of consumer electronics, hard drives have truly become a necessity for the priceless data they carry.
As digital entertainment streams into consumers’ lives (laptops/PCs, MP3 players, DVRs, mobile phones, PDAs, digital cameras or portable movie players), the consumers’ appetite for more storage is growing. As the cost of digital storage becomes less, it is affordable enough for all content to be permanently retained – increasing the pervasiveness of hard disk drives. It means the system builder community can up-sell more storage — both internal drives and external storage devices.
