Juniper names new enterprise chief

Juniper Networks has named Mark Bauhaus executive vice-president and general manager of its enterprise-focused Service Layer Technology group.

Bauhaus replaces Rob Sturgeon, who left Juniper in March by “mutual decision” after a review of Juniper’s growth plans and “requirements to achieve desired scale,” according to the company.

Bauhaus ran his own executive-level technology consultancy. Before that, he spent 20 years at Sun where he most recently served as senior vice-president, service oriented architecture software. As head of SLT, Bauhaus will be responsible for Juniper’s security, application acceleration, unified access control and enterprise routing product lines.

SLT has been struggling to achieve profitability after Juniper formed the unit from US$5 billion in acquisitions over three years. The unit, however, had a promising second quarter.

Sturgeon spearheaded the initial phase of Juniper’s enterprise strategy, which commenced with the US$4 billion acquisition of NetScreen Technologies in 2004. He also helped build Juniper’s customer service organization after coming to the company from Lucent in 2001.

Juniper also named a new chief marketing officer. Penny Wilson, a 25-year marketing and technology veteran, joins Juniper from a similar post at Macromedia, an Adobe Systems company.

Wilson will be responsible for leading Juniper’s global marketing programs and resources.
