Microsoft’s latest Canadian acquisition is in web portal solutions

Microsoft has announced another acquisition in Canada, this time in a web portal and application lifecycle management solutions provider.

The software giant today said that it had acquired Regina, SK-based Adxstudio Inc., which provides web-based solutions for Dynamics CRM.

While Microsoft’s previous Canadian acquisition of Toronto-based Datazen Software was geared towards business intelligence and data visualization solution, this purchase, the company says, is focused on customer service.

“Organizations today are looking for new and different ways to better connect, support and engage with their customers,” Bob Stutz, corporate vice president of Microsoft Dynamics CRM said in a blog post. “People increasingly rely on channels like Web portals to make sure their voice is heard – in fact this year, Forrester research uncovered that for the first time, Web self-service is now the most popular channel customers use to find help.”

Adxstudio, founded in 1998, also provides SharePoint and .NET-based solutions with key application products include Adxstudio Portals and the Adxstudio ALM Toolkit.

The former is designed to add web-based engagement functions as well as community, retail and government portals to the CRM platform, while the latter helps “automate change management for Microsoft Dynamics CRM projects using a source control system such as Microsoft Team Foundation Server,” according to Adxstudio.

According to Stutz, the acquisition brings with it engagement solutions including partner relationship management for the channel, tech support solutions for developers, and public engagement solutions for the public sector, to be used on-premise or in the cloud. He also emphasized the goal of allowing customers and ISVs to build their own CRM web solutions on Microsoft technology.

Customers are able to use the features immediately.
