Microsoft now making notebook coolers

Mary Jo Foley writes that Microsoft’s hardware division is now making notebook cooling bases.
“Starting in July, users will be able to buy their choice of one of these new cooling bases in white or black for $29.95. The bases can be used on a desk or on a lap … the bases will support both PCs and Macs.”
Even mobile phone sales tanked in Q4

Paul McNamara writes that according to a recent Gartner research report, mobile phone sales were down in last year’s Q4.
“Worldwide mobile phone sales totaled 1.22 billion units in 2008, up from 1.15 billion in 2007, Gartner said. In the fourth quarter, however, worldwide mobile phone sales declined 4.6 per cent compared with the same period in 2007 to 314.7 million units, and the top five mobile phone vendors all saw a drop in fourth quarter sales.”
Recession means more all-star candidates

Briony Smith writes that according to a recent poll by Jobfox, a career site, employers believe the recession is an ideal time to hire staff.
“The site polled American 200 recruiters last December and found that 76 per cent of (respondants) were excited for the higher level of talent that a scarcity of jobs might herald.”
