AVG goes toe to toe with MS in consumer security fight

John Leyden provides some details around AVG 9.0.

“AVG 9.0 – boasts 50 per cent faster speed and increased ease of use. Improvements in speed have been achieved by skipping the scan of files already marked as safe in future scans unless the file structure changes. The approach also offers claimed improvements of ten to 15 per cent for boot times and memory usage, respectively. The firewall module in AVG 9.0 has also been redesigned to be less intrusive alongside tighter integration with the anti-malware scanner that forms the core of the product.”

Microsoft considering making Zune services available to Apple users

“Microsoft is considering whether it should port the Zune software and services to other platforms, including Apple’s. There’s no guarantee that the Redmondians will end up doing this – or timetable as to when this could happen – but it’s one of many strategies under active consideration.”

BestBuy partners with Google in mobile

Garett Rogers describes Best Buy’s partnership with Google.

“Google and Best Buy are working together in plans to entice users to purchase cellphones from their store rather than from other wireless retailers. Google is developing applications that will be pre-installed on devices purchased at Best Buy. The first mobile application that Google will be releasing lets customers to search for products and see which locations have them in stock.”
