Apple’s new iPhone outsold all other smartphones on the U.S. market for the month of July, according to a new study published by market research firm iSuppli. Sales of the iPhone accounted for 1.8 per cent of all cellphone sales for July, according to the report.
ISuppli claims that 52 per cent of those purchasing the iPhone in July were male, 62 per cent held college degrees and 57 per cent were 35 years old or older. One quarter of those new iPhone buyer switched to AT&T Wireless from another cell phone carrier, according to the report.
ISuppli reiterated its sales target of 4.5 million iPhones for calendar year 2007. Apple has previously said that it expects to ship 10 million iPhones in 2008, but iSuppli thinks Apple is selling itself short, and predicts the company can move 13.8 million iPhones during that time. What’s more, iSuppli predicts that Apple will be moving 26.8 million iPhones per year by 2010.
