Communications, data centre and security solution provider Westcon Group is expanding its cloud capability with the recent purchase of cloud service aggregator and broker Verecloud Inc.
With the acquisition, Westcon gains Verecloud’s telecom carrier-grade cloud services aggregation and brokerage platform which can process millions of concurrent transactions in real-time, including subscription and usage-based services delivered by multiple third-party service providers. This will enable Westcon to provide its value-added reseller (VAR) customers with an enhanced cloud distribution solution which will help them develop cloud services, according to Dolph Westerbos, CEO of Westcon.
“Weston Group and Verecloud have been working together during the past 18 months and co-developed a truly differentiated cloud go-to-market capability for the channel,’ he said. “Our services distribution solution sets us apart from the industry hence we decided to ‘in-source’ that intellectual property through this acquisition.”
Westcon provides technology original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and cloud service providers with a cloud distribution solution that takes care of tasks such as micro-transaction billing, service level monitoring as well as up-selling and cross-selling. The solution allows OEMs and service providers to focus on building their own cloud services.
Verecloud, a privately-held company founded in 2006, will be incorporated into Westcon’s cloud solutions practices which will be led by Verecloud’s former CEO, John McCawley. The Denver-based company provides mid-market businesses and technology resellers with a cloud integration and marketplace platform to manage cloud services.
“Cloud solutions have become particularly intricate,” said McCawley, “That’s why our mission is to provide a single source for technology resellers and their customers to discover, buy, monitor, and manage their cloud services eco-system…We are very excited to be part of the Westcon Group team. Together, there’s no limit to what we can accomplish for the cloud service providers and reseller community.”
