First look: The Dell Precision 5510 mobile workstation

LOS ANGELESDell recently refreshed its Precision line of mobile workstations, and during the Adobe MAX conference we got a close-up look at the latest models on display in the Dell booth on the trade show floor.

The vendor launched four new workstations. The Dell Precision 7710 and 7510 are 17″ and 15″ models respectively, both designed as the powerful workhorses of the new family. The 15″ Dell Precision 5510 is designed for portability as Dell’s thinnest and smallest workstation yet. And the Dell Precision 3510 is a 15″ model designed to balance power and affordability.

According to Dell, the new models have been redesigned inside and out to be thinner and lighter with improved displays, as well as the latest graphics technology, processors, memory and storage. They come with 6th generation Intel Core processors and will be available with the future Intel Xeon E3-1200 processors. New screen options include PremierColor 4k Ultra HD displays with 100 per cent minimum Adobe RGB colour gamut, as well as Full HD and UHD options.

“We listened to our customers from media and entertainment, engineering, manufacturing, finance and beyond to deliver the highest performing systems for their critical workloads,” said Rahul Tikoo, director and general manager for Dell Precision, in a statement. “This portfolio brings together industry-leading solutions combining great, new technologies from our hardware partners, seamless functionality with critical applications from our software partners, and amazing innovations from our Dell engineering teams to deliver powerful and beautifully-balanced mobile and fixed workstations to our customers.”

The new mobile workstations will be available in Canada early in the fourth quarter. The 7710 starts at $1,699, the 7510 at $1,599, the 5510 at $1,799, and the 3510 at $1,299.

Dell has also released two refreshed desktop workstations: the Tower 3620 and 3420. They’re priced starting at $1,099 and $1,059 respectively, boasting the latest graphics, processors and memory, new faster SSDs, and what Dell promises is the world’s smallest small form factor workstation chassis.
