Distie Report: Tech Data creates new business groups

Tech Data (NASDAQ:TECD) has created two business divisions to support the current demand for HP and networking products.

According to Joe Quaglia, senior vice president, U.S. Marketing, Tech Data, the networking group will better position Avaya with its channel network of customers for both single and multi-vendor opportunities.

Meanwhile the HP division is similar in scope to the what value added distributors do with their business. It is hoped that the creation of the HP solutions division streamlines sales, marketing, technical and supply chain operations. It will also have dedicated management. HP is Tech Data’s largest vendor partner and represents 28 per cent of net global sales.

Quaglia said that this new business group fosters closer collaboration between two established leaders and enables better alignment of resources and operations in support of HP’s product strategies and channel partner community.

What Avnet hopes to get out of this partnership is for reseller to learn how to design solutions for solar applications. The distributor is banking that this partnership will bring solar designs to market faster.

Avnet also announced it will be expanding its distribution of Enterasys Networks. This is a good sign for the struggling wireless network vendor as it tries to make a comeback in the market place.
