HP’s new workstations are ready for virtual reality

HP Inc. has announced new workstations  targeting content creators in the fledgling Virtual Reality (VR) space.

New HP Z Workstation configurations feature NVidia’s Quadro professional GPUs and have been deemed “NVidia VR Ready.”

According to HP, each configuration is tested with the HTC Vive VR headset.

The new HP Z840, Z640 and Z440 desktop workstations feature Intel Xeon E5-2600 v4 series processors, graphics options from both NVidia Quadro and AMD FirePro, as well as a choice of Windows or Linux operating systems. The machines support memory speeds of up to 2400MHz and up to 44 physical cores per-workstation.

The company also announced a second generation update to the HP Z Turbo Drive, the G2 with 1 TB PCIe SSD storage.

The HP Z440, Z640 and Z840 and the Z Turbo Drive G2 1TB PCIe will all be available worldwide starting in April. U.S. pricing starts at $1,299, $1,759 and $2,399, respectively. The HP Z Turbo Drive G2 1TB PCIe is expected to be available worldwide in April. Estimated U.S. pricing starts at $799.
