Intuit Web sites back online after outage

Users trying to access Intuit Inc.’s small business software online were finally in luck Thursday.

Intuit said that its various Web sites, including TurboTax Online and QuickBooks Online, were restored after being brought down in a site outage Tuesday night.

The company said the outage was caused by a power failure that affected Intuit’s primary and backup systems during routine maintenance. The issue knocked “a number” of Intuit’s Web sites and services offline.

“We’re carefully monitoring the sites and the applications that support them to ensure we provide the services that customers expect. And they’re performing well at this time,” said Intuit CIO Ginny Lee said in a statement. “We’re deeply sorry for the disruption to businesses and consumers and appreciate their patience as we worked to resolve this problem.”

Lee added that the company is working to help any individuals or businesses affected by the outage.

The outage also took down the Web sites for Quicken, Intuit’s personal finance software, and QuickBase, which is online database software.

Intuit users, many of whom are small business owners, were unhappy with more than 24 hours of downtime. Many of them took to Twitter to vent their frustrations.

Dreeves tweeted, I love quickbase, but 25 hours downtime is hard to swallow. Passive, opaque and stiff communication from intuit didn’t help.” And phishfrye, wrote, “Back online but the damage has been done. Primary & backup sites felled by a singular mishap? Crappy IT or lousy excuse? Who knows.”

And attilathemum119 summed it up with, “This #QuickBooks outage has been a real PITA for thousands of businesses.”
