It did not take Nick Tidd, the former 3Com (Nasdaq: COMS) channel chief, long to find gainful employment.
According to a source, Tidd will start this Monday at D-Link Canada (TPE: D-LINK). His title and job responsibilities have not been confirmed by CDN.
Tidd, who was named one of 20 Builders and Visionaries of the Canadian IT channel by CDN, left 3Com, the company he called home for more than 15 years because of changes to the worldwide channel office at the networking vendor.
At the time, Tidd said he was being “phased out.”
In April, just a month after leaving 3Com, Blueroads Corp. named Tidd to its Channel Advisory Council.
The San Mateo, Calif.-based Blueroads crafts enterprise partner opportunity management solutions for organizations with complex, multi-dimensional channel market such as Avaya, Brocade, Polycom, Xerox and NetApp, which are all Blueroad customers. One of Blueroads more popular strategies is there closed-loop system which enables individual partner representatives to actively participate in sales and marketing processes.
Tidd is also involved with two companies: Sandy, Utah-based Cymphonix as a board member and Bayalink Solutions Corp. of Waterloo, Ont. as a senior advisor. Bayalink has created an application for the Blackberry that enables a user to obtain wireless hotspots for free through Notes or Outlook.
Most recently D-Link Canada has made two moves to further its penetration of the Canadian market, announcing a nationwide distribution agreement with D&H Canada and launching a reseller program for VARs focusing on network camera surveillance.
This past May, D-Link CEO J.C. Liao said that he envisions D-Link expanding wireless and switching.
The switching area, he believes, will lead to a build-out in unified communications (UC) for the company. “That means wired or wireless. Everything in the office will be managed by switches,” Liao said.
Whether Tidd will be placed in charge of this effort is still unknown. CDN will be monitoring this situation and will provide updates as soon as we get them.
