Toronto company could be the new Skype, says analyst firm

Never heard of Powersearch Software; well industry analyst David Horrigan of 451 Research has and in his latest report he calls the Toronto-based search technology developer “the Skype of e-discovery.”

Powersearch Software enables corporate legal departments, law firms, government agencies, and legal service providers to perform early data assessment (EDA) and to collect only relevant documents in a defensible manner to minimize e-discovery cost and risk.

Horrigan released a report on Powersearch Software titled, “DATAssimilate’s PowerSearch brings PayPal-palatable pricing to e-discovery.” In the report, Horrigan says that “the unique pricing model of PowerSearch alone makes it an e-discovery application to watch” and that “its pricing model could make PowerSearch the Skype of e-discovery.”

“As electronically stored information has become a part of everyday life, e-discovery has become part of everyday litigation. Yet, solo practitioners and small firms trying everyday legal matters have often been priced out of the traditional e-discovery market,” said Horrigan. “E-discovery applications such as PowerSearch fill a void as e-discovery moves beyond being only for Big Law firms and corporate legal departments working on complex commercial litigation.”

Powersearch has been in business for a little over a year. They have offices in New York as well as Vancouver. The Powersearch product enables users to cull their data prior to collection and quickly find all files while reducing collection time and costs by 80 per cent or more. Corporate legal departments and law firms worldwide have been downloading the product to help them level the playing field in litigation.

In the last year, the company has focused their efforts on listening to their users and bringing new features and functionality to the product, according to a company press release.

Girts Jansons, founder and CEO of Powersearch, said the goal is to listen to our users to help more law firms across the world use discovery as a part of their litigation. In the past, e-discovery was an expensive and complicated process to undertake. With PowerSearch, e-discovery is available to everyone – for every case.
