Kaspersky brings in an outsider as new channel chief

Kaspersky Lab North America has appointed Jason Stein as its new channel chief.

Stein will officially hold the title of vice president of channel and will be responsible for growing the company’s partner community along with managing a team of B2B channel professionals. The Russian-based security vendor has also asked Stein to develop new approaches to channel operations and improve the overall solution provider experience.

So who is Jason Stein?

Stein is from Aliso Viejo, Calif. and he has close to two decades of experience in the high tech space. In the last two years he was the vice president of channel for Tier 4 Advisors, a procurement partner in data centres and telecom. He was also a VP of channel sales at cloud security provider Effortless LLC.

Before that he worked at PSI Networks, T-Mobile and got his start at XO Communications.

He will report directly to Alexander Moiseev, the chief sales officer of Kaspersky.

Stein replaces Leslie Bois who left the position at the end of 2016 after an eight-year stint with the company. Michael Canavan, senior vice president of B2B Sales, was working as the channel chief on an interim basis. Stein’s role is slightly different that the role held by Bois.

A spokesperson for Kaspersky told CDN, the vice president of channel role is an entirely new position with authority over Kaspersky Lab North America’s comprehensive channel operations and partner community. With this position’s enhanced scope, the company will continue to increase its agility and ability to deliver industry-leading next-gen security solutions to the channel.

The appointment of Stein also comes approxmately six months after the security vendor introduced a new strategy for channel partners that involves hosting regional events called Kaspersky Lab Partner Summits in no less than six cities.

Kaspersky is using this multi-city strategy to bring more education to the partners along with tailored sessions. Kaspersky is looking to engage with partners in a more personal way in hopes of driving increased revenue for the partner community. The strategy behind this move is for Kaspersky to expand its sales footprint regionally.
