OVH launches its managed kubernetes service in Canada

Hyperscale cloud provider OVH announced this week the deployment of kubernetes on its servers in Canada.

This comes after OVH, which manufactures its own servers and builds its own data centres, unveiled a similar deployment through a partnership with U.S.-based Platform9 during the KubeCon event in May.

The service is a big deal for modern clients that have embraced DevOps, the public cloud, and perhaps are already on their way towards building custom applications. But OVH said clients who don’t fall into those categories told them they wanted to take advantage of the orchestration software on OVH dedicated bare-metal servers as well. That’s why OVH launched what it’s calling the industry’s only fully managed Kubernetes-as-a-Service that works on any infrastructure.

“Our partnership with Platform9 and the compatibility of all OVH bare-metal servers with Platform9’s solution enables us to provide clients with Managed Kubernetes on a fully dedicated, high-performance and scalable hardware perimeter,” said Nicolas Savides, vice-president of strategy and partnership at OVH in a press release.

A “large sample” of users provided OVH with feedback ahead of the offering’s launch, according to Maxime Hurtrel, product manager at OVH.

“Our partnership with Platform9 and the compatibility of all OVH bare-metal servers with Platform9’s solution enables us to provide clients with managed kubernetes on a fully dedicated, high-performance and scalable hardware perimeter,” said Hurtrel.

The announcement comes roughly two months before the OVH Summit in Paris.
