The Phoenix Group rises now at Ingram Micro

Ingram Micro Inc. has acquired Point-of-Sale specialty distributor The Phoenix Group.

This is being positioned by Ingram as North American expansion at it will enable the distributor to extend its capabilities for channel partners in the rapidly growing electronic payments space in Canada and the U.S.

The plan for now is to bring The Phoenix Group’s electronic payments expertise, extensive payment key library and value-added POS deployment services and merge them with Ingram Micro’s existing POS and payment technology capabilities. Ingram also will include its professional services and partner enablement resources to this new unit.

Ingram also noted that The Phoenix Group has earned all major network, PCI and P2PE certifications. With these in hand, it has the possibility to open new opportunities for channel partners interested in expanding their foothold in the POS and payment arena, as well as across key vertical markets, such as retail and hospitality.

The distributor will be operating The Phoenix Group as an extension of Ingram Micro’s Advanced Solutions division, under the direction of Jeff Yelton, vice president and GM of Advanced Solutions at Ingram.

The Phoenix Group CEO, Scott Rutledge, will stay on to help accelerate these moves along with The Phoenix Group personnel in St. Louis, Mo., and Mississauga, Ont.

Also, part of the deal is The Phoenix Group’s network of relationships, the sales team, authorized repair facilities for VeriFone, Ingenico, MagTek, RDM, PAX and TechTrex.

Yelton said this acquisition increases Ingram Micro’s capabilities and market share in the electronic payments space. Combining both sets of assets and expertise allows customers access to Ingram Micro’s end-to-end solutions portfolio, including lifecycle services, cloud-based offerings and a world-class supply chain.
