Fortinet expands SaaS cloud offerings, launches branch offering to secure the WAN

Fortinet Inc. made some moves recently.

The cybersecurity company recently announced an expansion of its Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) cloud offerings with new FortiCloud solutions. The solutions are various services for the Fortinet Firewalls and Access Points. That was then followed by the announcement that the company had launched an initiative to integrate firewalls and software-defined wide area networks (SD-WANs) to make it easier to secure a branch office. This means Fortinet is extending the reach of its firewalls to add support for wireless networks based on the 802.11ax standard, also known as WiFi 6.

It’s a good time to be a Fortinet partner, Sean Campbell, director of Canadian channels for Fortinet, told CDN.

“Organizations are re-evaluating their existing security strategies to deliver a consistent, seamless, edge-to-endpoint threat posture,” he said in an email, adding partners, of which they have “a number of” in Canada, are integral to the ongoing innovation, education and training that businesses are desperately seeking. “Our partners can confidently deliver industry-leading threat intelligence and advanced threat protection from the perimeter to the core.”

FortiCloud’s latest updates are carefully thought-out for the SMB user, many of whom want to sidestep the steep learning curves on disparate security products from multiple vendors, indicated Darius Goodall, senior director of SMB product marketing at Fortinet:

“To add to this, all the products are designed to be an integral part of the Fortinet Security Fabric, enabling the technologies to communicate with each-other,” he explained.

Russ Doucet, chief technology officer for Ottawa-based network security firm Insa Corp., said FortiGate Cloud service are also proving to be very simple and effective for large scale deployments. In addition to Fortinet, Insa works with A10 Networks, Symantec, Cyxtera, Carbon Black, Bradford Networks. Most of them are integrated with Fortinet in some way, added Doucet.

“As an individual with many years experience on the Fortinet product line, I have seen the FortiGate Cloud offering has evolved from early days as an incidental FortiGate logging destination, into a powerful and effective management, monitoring, and deployment tool that has benefits for enterprises of all sizes.”
